Frequently asked Questions about Subscribing, and Podcasts in General
1. What is a podcast? In simplest terms, a podcast is a downloadable audio program you listen to on your computer or MP3 player. Despite the name, your MP3 player does not need to be an iPod ... I know, most podcasters hate that mistaken assumption. 2. How do I get this podcast? You can listen to a show by ...
3. You lost me with that last one.Basically a podcatcher is a program. You give it a list of podcasts you want to subscribe to, and it goes out, regularly checks for new episodes, and automatically downloads them for you when you're not looking. 4. Where do I get a podcatcher?A list of our favorite ones are included on the links page. Personally, I recommend Juice if you're computer savvy, and iTunes if you are not. Most modern browsers can also act as podcatchers, though not particularly good ones. Look for something like "feeds," "subscriptions," or "live bookmarks" in your browsers help file for more-detailed instructions. 5. How much does a subscription cost?Podcasts are almost always free. Podcasters just do this because they love it. We do, however, almost always accept donations to help defer the costs of putting a podcast out. Since that's a very minimal expense in my case, I spend all of the tip jar money on drinks for the bands and tips for the venue's wait staff. (Heck, if you want me to spend it on a particular band or in a particular venue, I'll even do my best to accomodate THAT.) Point is, everything you give, goes back into the Indianapolis music scene in one form or another. But, heck, this isn't PBS, so you won't ever hear me mention this stuff again, or anywhere except this page -- and I'll keep doing the show even if the tip jar never sees another dime.
As an added bonus, if you donate generously enough, you'll learn the secret phrase that gets you all the free schwag and VIP treatment if you ever bump into us in public 6. How do I subscribe? Here's an example, got iTunes? Try this:
